A gruesome picture has developed on the filling pumps for many car and lorry drivers. In Germany the price of diesel fuel has reached a record high of 1.50€ per litre. However, according to reports in the media, the price for crude oil has dropped, but because the heating period has just begun, demand has risen sharply.

Furthermore, the oil companies point to the high cost of processing crude oil to produce diesel. Another influence on the high prices is, among other things, the condition of the United States' fuel reserves, which are at an all-time low.  This complicates matters and pushes up the demand for the black gold. Moreover, there is also a very high demand for diesel on the Chinese market, since diesel is not used there merely for heating and transport, but also for the generation of electricity.
