Russian - Polish Transit Comes to a Standstill

From Monday the 17th of January 2011, HGV transit between Russia and Poland will temporarily cease, warns the German logistics service provider Loxx. Polish HGV's will neither be permitted to enter into or transit through Russia, the reverse being that no Russian HGV is allowed access into, nor transit through Poland.

The reason for this fact is that both countries cannot agree on the contingent of the transit approvals for 2011. The latest talks took place on the 12th of January. The statement from the Polish government says that the Russian government is not ready to accept compromises because it wants to drastically reduce the number of transit approvals to keep Polish HGV's out of the Russian market. When and to what extent this transit question will be resolved is unforeseeable at this point in time.

Therefore, for goods traffic to Russia and Central Asia, it must be reckoned with longer delivery times and, in certain circumstances, additional price increases.
