20 years ago, in 1991, following the demise of Yugoslavia, the Republic of Macedonia became independent. With approximately 2 million inhabitants, this small country, which neighbours Greece, and whose most famous national figure is Alexander the Great, has a very well developed road system which is 5540km in length. Macedonian infrastructure is being extended constantly.
