The Prague Government is planning to introduce a road toll extension onto minor roads for trucks over 3.5 tonnes.
The road toll extension is not only intended to protect regional roads from large lorries but the additional revenue will also be used for financing the road network system covering 5000 km. Transport companies in the Czech Republic are firmly against this plan.
In future, this would create two road toll systems in the Czech Republic as the system used for motorways cannot be transferred to regional roads. Investigations are currently in progress as to whether the road toll revenue will ever cover the costs for the introduction of the new system. A significant basis for decision has not been produced so far. Therefore the introduction of a road toll on regional roads of the Czech Republic remains pending.
