According to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the independence from Serbia declared by Kosovo is legal. The declaration of its independence on 17 February 2008 "did not violate general international law", said the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Hisashi Owada, on Thursday 22 July 2010 at the reading of the ICJ legal opinion on the independence of Kosovo.
