Freight refers to goods which are transported to their destination with the relevant means of transport. In legal terms, freight business in Germany is governed by HGB (German Commercial Code) § 407-452. However, there is national freight and international freight, so that European transport law often also has to be taken into account.

In the freight contract (written agreement on freight transportation), the carrier undertakes to transport the freight of the sender to the agreed destination and deliver it to the specified recipient. On the other hand, based on this contract the sender is obliged to pay for transport of the agreed freight on delivery. Freight may take various forms. In this context, the safety of the load (protecting freight against transport damage) is one of the most important tasks of a logistics company.
